Collective Roots was established in 2021 in the rural community of Laverne, Oklahoma. A group of Laverne area citizens sought ways to develop our local economy as well address the reality that we lived in the middle of a food desert. With no shortage of local ranchers, farmers, gardeners and other innovative creators, we desired to create a space where our producers could get their goods into the hands and homes of our community. Collective Roots, A Made in Oklahoma Cooperative, was born.
Due to the generous collaboration of Harper County Development Authority, Laverne Public Works Authority and the Laverne Area Chamber of Commerce, a main street location was converted into our Made in Oklahoma storefront which is stocked with a variety of food, body and household products, made and produced right here in our great state.
Additional funds were awarded through a grant by TSET (Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust) to employ a part-time Food Cooperative Coordinator as well as to fund promotional items. The Cooperative will operate out of the Made in Oklahoma store, and will focus on the coordination of providing locally sourced, fresh produce items as well as meat and dairy products to our community. The cooperative will operate with a special focus on at risk populations, including our senior citizens and children living in low income circumstances.

The word Collective represents our community of producers and makers, working together to provide healthy and fresh produce and food goods as well as unique and creative products to Laverne area residents. Together we believe we can achieve and provide more by pooling our resources.
The word Roots represents that there is a long-standing history in our area of hard work, perseverance and the ability to solve problems by working together. We will remember the virtues and experiences of our past, and let them guide us into our future as we adjust to present day needs.
The Made in Oklahoma storefront is stocked with a variety of Oklahoma products ranging from jams to jerky, candles, earrings, soaps and so much more! Our desire is to add an even greater supply of products produced by our local community members. To help in this effort, we are exploring the path to creating a commercial kitchen where food producers can take their fresh produce, beef, baked goods, etc. to the next level and sell them to the community in accordance with state regulations.
Are you a gardener with a great recipe for pickles? Do you create custom art or crafts that you think others would enjoy? Are you the pie lady for all family gatherings? What about a local rancher interested in selling your processed beef through our storefront? Is your crop of summer tomatoes so large you have plenty to spare and would like to get paid for it?
We would love to connect with you and look at the possibilities of getting your products into the hands of our community through our Collective Roots storefront. We are available to help you navigate the state licensing requirements for producing and selling food products. We can also help with branding and design on a small scale if you need help capturing the right look for your items to sell.
